Popcorn, the darling of the corn family
Maize has strong adaptability to the environment, and has the characteristics of drought tolerance, cold tolerance, poor tolerance, easy planting in mountainous areas and sandy soils. It is more adaptable than traditional rice and wheat in China. However, when the Ming Dynasty corn was first introduced to China, no one paid attention to the cultivation of corn, and even only served as a gardener.
In the Qing Dynasty, although the rulers encouraged the restoration of production, they were worried that the peasants would live in the mountains and become social hidden dangers. They repeatedly ordered the ban on corn cultivation. Therefore, corn, a highly adaptable crop with high yield, has never played a role in China's feudal society.
